Sixth grade extended math is a rigorous examination of the following major topics: data analysis and statistics; probability; ratios, proportions, and percents, properties of geometric shapes; operations with decimals and fractions; algebraic expressions and equations, and integers. Students will work with the scientific calculator for many applications, but they will also be taught how to use estimation and mental math. Practical and consumer problems will be integrated during the course of instruction to demonstrate the real-world application of mathematics.
Extended sixth grade math is a combination of the entire sixth grade math curriculum and approximately half of the seventh grade math curriculum. It is a very fast paced course of instruction designed for those students who can acquire math skills quickly and have outstanding work habits. Students who do not demonstrate these qualities can expect to be reassigned to a regular math class.

Class Links These are games and activities that will improve your computation and estimation skills. These are some activities that will help student to work with organizing and graphing data. Fun activities to practice skills we are learning in our unit on factors, multiples, and integers. These web sites provide practice with math basic facts in a variety of methods (e.g.; flashcards, games). All students are encouraged to try these to build proficiency in math basic facts. These sites can be used to brush up on math facts in a fun format. Web sites to help with skills used in this unit. Great (and fun) preparation for quizzes and the unit test. Math VocabularySixth grade students always find the math vocabulary challenging. However, they need to become conversant with it. This link will give them an opportunity to practice many of the terms they need to know. The matching part is a fun activity that I recommend. |
